DURHAM, N.C. – It was a solid showing in the first tournament of the season for Harvard Men’s Golf, who finished in 7th place at the 2025 Rod Myers Invitational hosted by Duke University. The Crimson competed against a strong field of opponents at the Duke University Golf Club and were as high as third in the field during the tournament before finishing in seventh place. Harvard was led by sophomores Ieuan Jones and Barry Zhang who finished T18 and T28, with scores of even-par (216) and three-over (219) int rh 54-hole competition.
How it Happened
The 2025-26 Harvard men’s golf season began this weekend as the team traveled to North Carolina to compete in the 2025 Rod Myers Invitational at the Duke University Golf Club. The Crimson deployed a starting lineup of all underclassmen as sophomore William Ma, Ieuan Jones and Barry Zhang played alongside first-years Isaac Ahn and Morgan Riley, who made their collegiate debuts at the tournament.
Riley, a North Carolina native, was the story of the first round for the Crimson with his score of even-par 72. The first-year carded four birdies across the first 18 holes to lead the team in scoring and position himself T13 after round one. His classmate, Ahn, also impressed in his first collegiate round, carding a one-over-par round of 73. Jones and Zhang each came in two-over-par in the first round to help Harvard post a team score of 293 (+5), which was good for sixth-place after 18 holes.
The Crimson caught fire in round two of the tournament, posting a team score of 278 (-10), after the team’s top-four golfers finished under par. The strong round – which was tied for the lowest team round of the tournament – catapulted the team into third place at the conclusion of the second round. Jones posted a team-tournament-low score of 67 (-5) after carding four birdies and an eagle. Zhang and William Ma each posted round of 70 (-2) and Riley shot a 71 (-1) to contribute to the team scoring. Individually, three Harvard golfers found themselves in the top 30 with Jones in T9, Riley at T15 and Zhang at T21 after 36 holes.
Despite a strong start in the final round, and a one-under-par round of 71 by Ma, the Crimson slid down the leaderboard to eventually finish in seventh-place at the conclusion of the tournament. Jones and Zhang each shot 75 (+3) while Riley came in at 76 (+4) as the Crimson posted a 298 (+10) in the closing round of competition.
Jones still managed to secure a top-20 finish in his first tournament of the year, coming in at T18 to lead the Crimson. Harvard finished just 11 shots back of third-place in an overall solid tournament for the team in its season opener.
