The trade ultimately didn’t go through, but it’s easy to speculate on the name of the player being discussed.”

This was about a player who was clearly available on the trade market, meaning a player who was eventually moved afterward.

I really don’t see why Kent Hughes would have had interest in Nyquist (36 years old) or Schenn (35 years old), so that would possibly leave centers Novak and Jankowski.
Novak, 28, is a 6-foot-1, 179-pound center who recorded 43 points in 51 games (a 70-point pace), 45 points in 71 games, and 22 points in 52 games over the last three seasons.
Jankowski, 30, is a 6-foot-4, 212-pound center who has tallied 124 points in 414 career NHL games, including 8 goals in 19 games with the Carolina Hurricanes late last season (after being traded by the Preds).
