20 Underrated, Drama-Free Celeb Couples

Ever experience a little social death? Someone drops a pop culture fact you definitely should’ve known, and suddenly everyone’s staring at you — confused, maybe a little disappointed. Your palms are sweaty, your face is on fire, and then someone hits you with, “How do you not know that? That happened in 2011!” Cue spiral. You missed a major cultural moment, and now you have to survive the rest of the night knowing you let the group down.

I get that way with celebrity couples. Some are so low-key and unproblematic that I genuinely didn’t even know they were together. And because I suffer from this very specific affliction, my only remedy is to quietly excuse myself, lock myself in a bathroom stall, and speed-Google their entire 12-year, three-kid love story like I’m cramming for a final.

So, in the depths of one particularly brutal shame spiral, I did what any totally normal person would do: I started obsessively researching celebrity couples from the last four decades. (If anything, I’m thorough.) And honestly…maybe no press is a good thing for marriage. It (maybe) means they’re low-key, drama-free, and happy. I guess we’ll never know. But without further ado, here are some celebrity couples I either had zero clue were a thing…or didn’t find out about them until years after they were already married. And honestly, they’re so wholesomely perfect, they deserve more love. So I’m gonna give them a quick blast:

1.

I can’t believe I’m saying this (it’s embarrassing), but before the Together press tour started making the rounds on social media, I had no idea Alison Brie and Dave Franco were married. And now that I’ve seen the movie, I’ve fully spiralled — I’ve watched every interview and fallen down a rabbit hole of just how ridiculously cute they are together.

They met in 2011 at Mardi Gras — and yes, their meet-cute involved Alison Brie giving Dave Franco a beer laced with MDMA. In an interview, Dave shared that his cats actually moved in with Alison before he did. He said he realized he couldn’t keep spending every night at her place while leaving them alone at his, so he brought them over so they could all be together. Alison said, “That was the moment I knew.” Honestly, adorable. They tied the knot in 2017 and have continued to be ridiculously cute ever since.

2.

Did you know Buffy is married to Zack from She’s All That? Sarah Michelle Gellar and Freddie Prinze Jr. met in 1997 on the set of I Know What You Did Last Summer and stayed friends for years — until an accidental date changed everything. They were supposed to meet up with a mutual friend, but when that person missed their flight, the two ended up going at it alone — and the rest is history.

They tied the knot in 2002 and have been going strong ever since. Besides I Know What You Did Last Summer, Sarah made a cameo in She’s All That, and the two famously teamed up again as the iconic Fred and Daphne in Scooby-Doo. Nearly 25 years later, they’re still together and now share two kids. When they were newly engaged, Howard Stern asked Freddie, “So you’re going to marry Sarah Michelle Gellar, even though you know that won’t last?” Freddie didn’t hesitate, confidently responding, “Oh, absolutely, it will last.” And he was right — they’re truly a dream couple.

3.

It feels like pure TV magic knowing that Seth Cohen from The O.C. and Blair Waldorf from Gossip Girl are actually together IRL. Leighton Meester and Adam Brody first met back in 2007 and even co-starred in The Oranges in 2011, but the timing wasn’t right until 2013 — when both were single and interested.

They clearly knew quickly that it was meant to be — the two tied the knot in 2014, just a year after they started dating, and welcomed their first child the following year. Leighton has even admitted she had a teen crush on Adam back when The O.C. premiered, recalling, “I remember he was a screensaver of one of my best friends when we were like 17.” Now, more than a decade of marriage and two kids later, every time the internet gets a glimpse of them together, it feels like a gift.

4.

Yes, Ferris Bueller and Carrie Bradshaw are an item. And while it might not be news to you, Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew Broderick’s relationship still feels underrated. They were introduced in 1991 through Sarah’s brothers, and not long after, Matthew left her an adorable voicemail — “a very charming, very self-effacing message on the machine,” as she recalled — which led to their first official date in 1992.

Although their careers have taken them in many directions, they even shared the stage in the 1996 Broadway revival of How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying. The following year, they tied the knot and have since welcomed three children. Nearly 30 years later, they’re still everything. Matthew even told Andy Cohen the exact moment he knew she was the one: “Oh, the first time I met her. I saw her walking down the street and thought, ‘That’s it.’” God, I love them.

And honestly, knowing Ryan is a girl dad is healing to my soul. He’s even said, “I wasn’t thinking about kids before I met her, but after I met Eva, I realized that I just didn’t want to have kids without her.” If that’s not a beautiful testimony to their love — and their family — I don’t know what is.

7.

If you haven’t seen videos of Kevin Bacon and Kyra Sedgwick dancing on Kevin’s TikTok, do yourself a favour. Their chemistry — even after 37 years — is incredible. The two fell in love in classic Hollywood fashion when they met and co-starred in the film Lemon Sky.

They got engaged on Christmas Eve in 1987 and tied the knot the following September. As quick as it may have seemed, it was clear they’d found their match for life. Now, nearly four decades and two kids later, they’re still clearly in love — and blessing the internet with it.

8.

Yes, Carol from The Office is actually Steve Carell’s real-life wife. Steve and Nancy Carell first met in Chicago in the ’90s, when Nancy took one of Steve’s improv classes. Looking back on their meet-cute, Steve once said, “I thought she hated me because she was very quiet around me.” But even with that shy start, they both knew right away it was going somewhere.

They tied the knot in 1995, and Steve later recalled, “I’ll never forget standing at the altar and seeing her coming down the aisle — immediately a sense of calm came over me. There was this ethereal feeling of how right it all was, and more than anything, it was empowering to know that person was going to be my partner and have my back. It just made me feel strong, and I’ll never forget it.” Now, almost 30 years and two kids later, Nancy and Steve are just as cute as they were from day one.

After a five-month whirlwind romance in 2011, they got engaged and officially tied the knot in 2012. Since then, they’ve had three children and nearly 15 years of wedded bliss. They still write love letters to each other and are constantly supporting each other’s careers. Honestly, such a wholesome pair.

10.

I know that I’m a crushy person, and this one always gets brows raised, but NGL, Stephen Colbert is one of my top celebrity crushes. I love a family man who values long love, and Stephen Colbert and Evelyn McGee-Colbert are the perfect example. And the way they met was straight out of a fairy tale. It was love at first sight — at least for Stephen. He was standing in the lobby of a theatre, talking to his mom about whether he should marry his girlfriend at the time, when he spotted Evelyn in the crowd and instantly felt he was looking at the woman he was meant to marry.

He was right — they married in 1993. When talking about the romance in their marriage, Evie once said of Stephen, “He’s a good listener. The best thing about being a partner is being able to listen, and that makes someone very romantic if they can really listen to you.” Three kids and more than three decades later, they’re an inspiration to couples everywhere. Definitely “couple goals.”

11.

Funnily enough, Margot Robbie once admitted she never thought she’d be the type to settle down. But when she met her now-husband, Tom Ackerley, everything changed. “I was the ultimate single gal. The idea of relationships made me want to vomit. And then this crept up on me. We were friends for so long. I was always in love with him, but I thought, Oh, he would never love me back. Don’t make it weird, Margot. Don’t be stupid and tell him that you like him. And then it happened, and I was like, ‘Of course we’re together. This makes so much sense, the way nothing has ever made sense before.’”

After living together in a flat with friends in 2013, their friendship quickly turned romantic. By 2016, they were married. Margot once said, “Being married is actually the most fun ever — life got way more fun somehow. I have a responsibility being someone’s wife, I want to be better.” Now, with more than a decade together and an almost 1-year-old baby boy, they’re serving hotness, couple goals, and parent envy all at once.

12.

Andy Samberg met his wife, Joanna Newsom, in the most iconic way: He was her groupie. A longtime fan of her music, he finally met her after one of her shows. And if you’ve ever seen those compilation videos of Andy gushing about her in interviews, you know, it’s veryyy clear he’s still her biggest fan.

They tied the knot in 2013 and have since welcomed two kids and nearly a decade of love together. Honestly, I wish I could pick a favourite quote from Andy about how much he adores his wife, but there are just too many good ones. Do yourself a favour and search “Andy Samberg talking about his wife” on YouTube — it’s a total treat.

13.

Yep, Tammy 2 from Parks and Recreation is actually married to Ron Swanson in real life. Nick Offerman and Megan Mullally first met while working on a play in 2000. Not long after they started dating, Nick guest-starred as a lumberjack on Will & Grace — where the two got to make out with each other on screen and commemorate the beginning of their epic love affair on camera.

14.

Tom Hanks met his wife, Rita Wilson, in true movie-star fashion — on set. Tom was starring in the TV series Bosom Buddies when Rita appeared in an episode back in 1981. Reflecting on her first impression of Tom, Rita once said, “I love a good storyteller. So anybody who could tell a good story, I’m down with that … I love that. He makes me laugh all the time. He’s a great storyteller.”

Little did she know she’d be marrying America’s great storyteller. The two wed in 1988, and more than 35 years and two sons later, they’re still as strong as ever. They’ve worked together, weathered illness together, raised children together — and remain each other’s biggest fans. Honestly, we could all learn a thing or two from them.

15.

Melissa McCarthy and Ben Falcone are the ultimate funny couple — the kind you wish could somehow be both your best friends and your parents. They first met as members of the LA sketch comedy troupe the Groundlings. After rehearsals, they’d grab drinks with the group and soon realized they were always the last ones left, stretching out the night just to spend more time together. They turned up he heat shortly after.

They tied the knot in 2005, and by 2010 they were a family of four with two daughters, Vivian and Georgette. Melissa has said that Ben is the one who made her see marriage as family — “He’s so constantly loving and kind” — and that having kids made her feel truly centred. Honestly, that’s exactly what you want in a marriage, and these two are just deliciously sweet.

16.

Emma Stone and Dave McCary met in the cutest way. In 2016, Dave was writing for SNL while Emma was hosting — she even starred in the sketch that he wrote that week. By fall 2020, they were married and already talking about kids. As Emma put it, “I feel pretty good about starting my own pack.”

Since then, they’ve become parents, welcoming their daughter in 2021. Emma even thanked her little one in her 2021 Oscar speech, saying, “You have turned our life technicolour. I love you bigger than the whole sky.” What a sweet trio!

17.

Rachel Weisz and Daniel Craig first met in the ’90s while doing theatre in London, but sparks didn’t fly until they reunited on the set of Dream House in 2010. That same holiday season, they were already spending Christmas together in a remote English countryside cottage — where locals couldn’t help but note they looked like a sweet, married couple. And the locals were on to something, because only six months later, in front of only four witnesses, they wed.

18.

Jordan Peele — the king of modern horror — is married to Chelsea Peretti, aka Gina from Brooklyn Nine-Nine. It might seem like an unexpected pairing, but somehow, they just make sense. Their relationship has been so low-key that a lot of people don’t even realize they’re together. They first connected on Twitter in 2013 and, after a few public appearances, surprised fans by eloping in Big Sur in 2016.

In 2017, they welcomed a baby boy. Jordan once said of fatherhood, “Every day is a joy. You meet a little bit more of the person. Seeing that smile or recognition is everything.” Honestly, everything about their vibe feels intentional and wholesome. We’re obsessed.

19.

Alex Cooper famously dubbed her now-husband, Matt Kaplan, “Mr. Sexy Zoom Man” on Call Her Daddy before they ever went public. She even outed him as the first guy who made her enjoy receiving oral — joking, “My cum was in his beard hair.” But Matt didn’t just change her sex life; he changed her entire view on marriage. In her Hulu docuseries Call Her Alex, she admitted, “I always used to say, ‘I’m never getting married.’ I thought it would threaten my independence — no man should be able to say that I’m his. My view changed with Matt.”

The two tied the knot in 2024 and now not only work together but also run their podcast company, Unwell. Matt Kaplan — producer of To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before — told Call Her Daddy, “You know those people you meet and immediately feel like you’ve known forever? We instantly vibed, and I just knew we were going to get along so well.” And as a longtime fan of Alex’s podcast, I can confirm: they really do seem like the perfect match.

20.

And finally: Maya Rudolph and Paul Thomas Anderson met at an SNL party in 2001 — the kind of meet-cute you’d expect from a filmmaker and a comedy legend. Maya recalled him saying, “He said he saw me in a sketch and said, ‘That’s the girl I’m going to marry.’” Honestly, stories like that are what keep romance alive.
