Stage 17: The scene is set for a big fightout on the final climb
The non-climbers have another awful day in store, with yet another tough Vuelta summit finish. The stage is up and down from the start, even if there are only two official categorized climbs. The first of those peaks 75km after the drop of the flag, with the next being the first category summit finish of the Alto de el Morredero. It averages slightly under 10 percent over 8.8kms of climbing, and will be another important GC test.
Race director Fernando Escartín:
“A winding stage along the border between Galicia and León. With an intermediate distance, it could be a good day for an escape, where climbers will have a chance to prove their worth during the final climb.”
