Saskatchewan is coming off a big win over the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in the Banjo Bowl on Saturday. The 21-13 win allowed the Riders to sweep the annual Labour Day home-and-home series with their rivals.
Prior to that win, the Riders were 0-9 since 2018 in Winnipeg.
“We wanted to go to Winnipeg and win. We had to go to Winnipeg and win. It’s been year after year where it’s almost like we’ve said that but it was a different feeling rolling into last weekend,” defensive tackle Micah Johnson said. “I don’t have no problem saying that meant something special. That just wasn’t another regular-season game for sure.”
Paired with a Calgary Stampeders loss to the Edmonton Elks, the Riders have a bit more breathing room in a tight CFL West Division as the club inches closer to clinching a playoff spot.
This week, the Riders will look to keep its winning ways going against the Montreal Alouettes. Kickoff for the game is set for 5 p.m. The Green Zone pregame show begins at 2 p.m.
“We have a unique challenge in front of us with Montreal and their defence and co-ordinator and personnel they have. If we don’t bring it this week, we will be humbled real quick and everyone goes from talking about how awesome 10-2 is to — is the sky falling situation,” Harris said. “We have a one-week sprint.”
The Riders held a walkthrough practice on Tuesday. Fullback Albert Awachie (hand), defensive back Tevaughn Campbell (head), safety Jaxon Ford (knee), safety Nelson Lokombo (ankle), linebacker C.J. Reavis (leg), and defensive back Marcus Sayles (leg) all were listed as non-participants.
Wide receiver Sam Emilus (knee) was limited.
