Combat sports fans are in for a treat with movies in 2025.
Just weeks after Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson headlines The Smashing Machine as MMA legend Mark Kerr, fight fans will get another big-screen knockout when Christy lands in theaters this fall.
The official trailer for Christy has arrived today (Thurs., Sept. 11, 2025), showcasing Sydney Sweeney’s dramatic turn as trailblazing boxer Christy Martin. Known in the 1990s as “The Coal Miner’s Daughter,” Martin became one of the most recognizable women in combat sports, breaking through on Mike Tyson undercards while also fighting battles far beyond the ring.
Directed by David Michod and co-written with Mirrah Foulkes, the film follows Martin’s rise from small-town obscurity to boxing stardom, while spotlighting her abusive marriage to trainer Jim Martin (played by Ben Foster). That relationship spiraled into a near-fatal 2010 attack that made national headlines, an event the film depicts alongside her athletic triumphs.
Christy premiered last week at the Toronto International Film Festival and hits U.S. theaters on November 7, 2025.
If the trailer is any indication, Christy isn’t just another boxing movie — it’s a raw, unflinching portrait of survival that cements Martin’s place as one of the most important fighters in combat sports history.
