Adra Tunnel remains open and accessible throughout ongoing repairs on the KVR Trail
As construction continues on the Kettle Valley Rail (KVR) Trail over the next year, facilitating drainage repairs, safety, and access will be priorities. The Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen (RDOS), in partnership with Recreation Sites and Trails BC, is managing access and traffic flow, with closures and alternative routes along the popular KRV Trail.
Critical maintenance on the second track of the KVR Trail above Naramata (Glenfir to Adra Tunnel) began in July 2025. Trail users may encounter traffic restrictions and construction traffic, and should follow signage throughout the construction period, which is expected to run through to late fall 2026.
Access from Glenfir
Glenfir to the construction site at Robinson Creek remains open to all users with a travel width less than 1.40 metres (4 feet 6 inches) wide
From the construction site
Off-road vehicles (ORV) and motorcycles can use the Bypass Trail through Rock Ovens Park to the third track of the KVR Trail to Chute Lake, Adra Tunnel, or Elinor Forest Service Road (FSR)
Cyclists and hikers can follow a bypass parallel to the KVR Trail and continue on the second track towards Adra Tunnel
Access from Smethurst
Drive 2.5 km east to the Smethurst staging area
Please ensure vehicles are suited for off-road conditions (high clearance, proper tires)
It is approximately a 750-metre hike from the Smethurst staging area to the lower tunnel, following the trail marked Sanchez to Adra Tunnel Service Road. Follow this service road to Adra Tunnel.
Sanchez Trail is not fully accessible. The trail is shared use and supports motorized recreation (ORVs and motorcycles)
Please stay on the marked trail to the tunnel and respect other trail users
Access from Adra Tunnel
For the safety and enjoyment of all users, the tunnel is non-motorized.
The tunnel is dark and narrow, with exhaust and noise a nuisance
There are many motorized trails in the area, including the Adra Tunnel bypass, which is open to users with a width less than 1.40 metres (4 feet 6 inches) wide
The third track from Chute Lake to Adra Tunnel is unrestricted
Please respect other trail users, closures, detours, and construction workers
