Extra cyclists expected on the roads Saturday 9/13

  • September 12, 2025

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KJCT) – On September 13, around 1500 cyclists will be cycling through the Colorado National Monument and Fruita for the Tour of the Moon cycling event.

Cyclists will begin their journey at 7:15 a.m.

Fruita Police Department (FPD) said that with the increase in cyclists on the roads it’s important for drivers, pedestrians, and cyclists to be cautious and aware of your surroundings.

“Drivers, cyclists, pedestrians, it takes everyone to make sure this is a safe event and make sure that everyone that participates is safe. Drivers, just slow down given the event times and riders, if you can, ride to the farthest right as possible. Ride single file when able to,” said Ed Pacheco, Officer with FPD.

FPD said no roads will be closed during this event. They said drivers should be patient when driving through the monument.

If you are going to be traveling in that area, it’s important to familiarize yourself with the bike routes ahead of time and drive west to east to avoid temporary road closures.
