Week 15 in the CFL begins Friday night in Hamilton as the 7-5 Tiger-Cats welcome the 6-6 Winnipeg Blue Bombers to town.
The Blue Bombers will be without veteran quarterback Zach Collaros after the three-time Grey Cup champion suffered an upper-body injury during Saturday’s Banjo Bowl loss to the visiting Saskatchewan Roughriders.
Stegall: If I see Collaros back on the field I’d be surprised, I think his career should be over The CFL on TSN panel discusses the concerns surrounding Bombers quarterback Zach Collaros after he left the game against the Riders in the third quarter due to an injury, and the Alouettes’ desperate need for a reliable QB.
Long-time Blue Bombers backup Chris Streveler will get the start behind centre on Friday.
The 30-year-old, who has thrown for 772 yards with five touchdowns and eight interceptions in 2025, has won both games he’s started this season for the Bombers.
It’s safe to say that Streveler is amped up for Friday’s game
“I’m excited. Any opportunity to get out there with the boys is exciting,” Streveler told Blue Bombers reporter Ed Tait on Thursday. “I had a good couple days of prep. Another short week and sometimes it’s better that way — just get into the game and get rolling. We’re all pretty excited.
“There’s a lot of review and studying, just putting last-minute pieces together. I definitely have a process for that. And for me — and you guys probably know this — I’m a high-energy guy. So, for me it’s how do I dial that back and save my energy that way come game time I can use it in a productive way. That’s always been my thing even since high school. My coach would say, ‘Calm down. You’re way too hyped before a game.’ I’ve always tried to just keep myself as calm as possible and save my energy for when it’s time to play.”
The Blue Bombers are looking to get back on track after losing two straight games to the rival Roughriders, dropping their record to .500 on the season. They sit third in the West Division behind the Riders (10-2) and Calgary Stampeders (8-4).
Winnipeg has advanced to the last five Grey Cup championship games, winning the first two before dropping the most recent three.
On the other side of the ball, the Tiger-Cats look to win their second straight game after a nice bounce-back victory in Week 14 against the Montreal Alouettes following a late, heartbreaking defeat on home turf to the Toronto Argonauts on Labour Day.
Veteran pivot Bo Levi Mitchell is having another strong season as the 35-year-old ranks second in the CFL in passing yards (3,653) and touchdowns (24).
Hamilton enters Week 15 holding down top spot in the East Division, four points ahead of the Alouettes.
The Tiger-Cats announced Friday morning the passing of general manager Ted Goveia following a battle with cancer.
“Ted was a highly respected leader, colleague, and friend whose passion and commitment for Canadian football left a lasting impact on everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. His dedication to the game and to the Tiger-Cats family will never be forgotten,” the team said in a release.
The Ticats will honour Goveia on Friday against the Blue Bombers, the team he served as the general manager from 2020 to 2024.
