Jasper Philipsen capitalized on an excellent Alpecin-Deceuninck lead-out to take his third win of this Vuelta a España on Friday’s stage 19, leaving no doubt in the bunch kick in Guijuelo.

Points classification leader Mads Pedersen (Lidl-Trek) took runner-up honors in the sprint with Orluis Aular (Movistar) claiming third on the day.

Crosswinds forced splits earlier in the stage, but things came back together before long, and overall leader Jonas Vingegaard (Visma-Lease a Bike) and the other top GC contenders finished together in the peloton just behind the sprinters. Even so, there was a bit of GC movement on the stage as Vingegaard managed to nab four bonus seconds at an intermediate sprint, extending his overall lead over João Almeida (UAE Team Emirates-XRG) to 44 seconds ahead of Saturday’s pivotal mountain stage.
