DURHAM, N.C. – The WNBA Playoffs get underway this weekend, and two former Duke women’s basketball standouts – Lexie Brown and Chelsea Gray – are slated to square off in the first round.
The chase for the 2025 WNBA title begins Sunday, Sept. 14, as Gray and the second-seeded Las Vegas Aces host Brown and the seventh-seeded Seattle Storm (10 p.m. ET) in game one. The series pivots to Seattle for game two (Tuesday, Sept. 16) with the action scheduled to tip off at 9:30 p.m. ET. Both contests will be broadcast live on ESPN.
Gray and the Aces (30-14) closed the 2025 WNBA season on a tear, winning their final 16 games en route to earning the No. 2-seed. Las Vegas became just the second team in league history to win 16 consecutive regular season games (Phoenix Mercury, 2014). Gray, an 11-year veteran, put up 11.2 points, 5.4 assists and 3.9 rebounds during the year. Earlier this season, she became the youngest, second-fastest (Alyssa Thomas) and just the fifth player in WNBA history to total 4,000 points, 1,500 assists, 1,000 rebounds, 400 steals and 100 blocks during her career.
Brown and the Storm secured the franchise’s ninth playoff berth in the last 10 years and 20th all-time as they finished the 2025 campaign with a record of 23-21. Playing in her eighth WNBA season, Brown provided veteran leadership for the Storm off the bench, highlighted by a season-high 12 points against the Chicago Sky.
The 2025 WNBA Playoffs features a best-of-three series (1-1-1 format) in the first round, while the semifinals are a best-of-five series (2-2-1 format). For the first time in league history, the WNBA Finals expands to a best-of-seven series (2-2-1-1-1 format).
