WINNIPEG, Manitoba – Former Colorado School of Mines receiver Max McLeod has signed with the CFL’s Winnipeg Blue Bombers.

The Orediggers’ all-time leader in catches and receiving yards, McLeod will initially join Winnipeg’s practice squad and hopes to help the Blue Bombers as they are in the midst of the CFL season fighting for a playoff spot, currently 3-2 and in third place in the West Division.

A native of Seattle, McLeod earned all-America honors in each of the past three seasons compiling career totals of 290 receptions, 4,688 yards, and 54 receiving touchdowns. He ranks fourth all-time in NCAA Division II in receiving yards producing more yards than any player since 2008, highlighted by a record-shattering 2023 season in which he had 115 catches for 1,656 yards and 16 touchdowns. He had double-digit touchdowns in all four of his seasons topped by 18 in 2022, and was a three-year 1,000-yard receiver in 2022, 2023, and 2024. McLeod holds degrees in mechanical engineering (B.S.) and engineering & technology management (M.S.) from Mines.

McLeod is the latest Oredigger from recent years to head to the CFL, joining former quarterbacks Isaac Harker (Saskatchewan Roughriders and BC Lions) and John Matocha (Toronto Argonauts) and cornerback Mason Pierce (Toronto Argonauts). McLeod impressed in Pro Day workouts with a 4.53-second 40-yard dash and a 33.5″ vertical jump, earning an invitation to the Denver Broncos’ rookie camp in May. He ultimately ends up in Winnipeg, which has held his Canadian negotiating rights since last winter.

The Orediggers are set to open their 2025 season Sept. 4 at West Texas A&M, with their home opener Sept. 13 vs. Washburn.
