The Saskatchewan Roughriders have clinched a playoff spot, becoming the first team to do so in the CFL.
With the Edmonton Elks’ loss against the Toronto Argonauts, the Roughriders have secured a playoff berth for the second straight season.
Coming into the week, there were multiple scenarios in which the best team north of the border could clinch. Either the Riders won outright or two of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, BC Lions, and Edmonton Elks suffered defeats.
Saskatchewan has achieved a 10-2 record for the third time in franchise history and are on pace to surpass their best record ever in the 18-game era of 13-5 (2019).
The Roughriders lead the three-down league in numerous statistical categories, including yards allowed, rushing yards allowed, big plays, big plays allowed, time of possession, sacks, interceptions, and turnover ratio.
The No.1 seed in the West Division is still up for grabs, however, as the only team to beat the Roughriders, the Calgary Stampeders, remain 2/3 games back of the Riders with the tiebreaker in their favour.
