There is a police presence around a high school in Manotick after a man was charged with “threatening communications.”
According to The Canadian Press, Ottawa police charged a man over alleged threats made to St. Mark’s Catholic High School in response to a staff member’s social media post on the death of Charlie Kirk.
Officers said the incident happened on Sept. 14 around 8:28 a.m. It prompted a search warrant by police in the 300 block of River Ridge Crescent, where they also found the suspect. He was arrested without incident.
The principal of St. Mark High School in south Ottawa sent a message to parents Sunday morning telling them that a threat had been made against the school.
The Ottawa Catholic School Board is looking into social media posts that a board spokesperson confirmed to The Canadian Press were related to Kirk, a right-wing U.S. activist who was gunned down on a Utah college campus last week.
The 23-year-old man is facing a charge after the communications.
A second letter sent to the families of St. Mark students Sunday evening says police believe there is currently no risk to students or staff.
