Following No. 6-seeded Indiana’s frustrating 80-68 Game 1 loss to the No. 3-seeded Atlanta Dream from the Gateway Center in College Park, Georgia, the Fever will host Game 2 of the first best-of-three series, with their 2025 season on the brink of elimination.
In the opening game on Sunday, September 14, both Allisha Gray and Rhyne Howard scored 20 points each as Atlanta was able to power past Indiana, despite Kelsey Mitchell posting 27 points on 9-for-18 from the field and 8-for-9 from the free-throw line.
Unsurprisingly, given the WNBA’s seemingly world-renowned inconsistency regarding its officials’ regulation and policing of physicality, Indiana’s frustrations boiled over twice on Sunday, with both head coach Stephanie White and point guard Odyssey Sims each receiving technical fouls. However, the Fever didn’t do themselves any favors either by shooting an ice-cold 2-for-13 from 3-point territory and giving up 20 points off their 15 turnovers.
For Indiana to extend their season to a pivotal Game 3 back at Gateway Center on Thursday, September 18, the Fever will need to shoot much more efficiently from beyond the arc, limit the damage on turnovers, remain poised through pressure, and get contributions from their bench players.
According to the IndyStar’s Chloe Peterson, Indiana forward Damiris Dantas will be the only missing player from both teams’ available roster entering tonight’s matchup, as she is still in concussion protocol.
