Golfers who enjoy playing at Golf Dorval can look forward to many more outings now that the facility has a 15-year commitment to the city of Dorval in hand. Last Friday the City of Dorval and ADM Aéroports de Montréal (ADM) reached an agreement in principle aimed at preserving the operation of Golf Dorval, located on the site of YUL Montréal–Trudeau International Airport. For close to a decade, it was a year-to-year process to have an agreement, now the facility is locked in until 2040. “Golf Dorval is a place of gathering and relaxation for our community,” Dorval Mayor Marc Doret said in the press release. “This agreement allows us to ensure its long-term sustainability while respecting the needs of our neighbor, ADM. This important preliminary agreement is a concrete action by the City of Dorval to protect and preserve our green spaces.”

This agreement provides for the negotiation of a 15-year lease, allowing the City of Dorval to continue operating the golf course while complying with safety standards and requirements specific to the airport environment. “This agreement reflects our commitment to providing the community with large open spaces while maintaining access for Dorval golfers, with the assurance of responsible and safe management within an airport setting,” Yves Beauchamp, President and CEO of ADM said in the release.

The large green space of the facility is also good news as it provides year-round activity opportunities. Winter sports enthusiasts can continue to take to the course for snowshoeing and cross-country skiing as those activities will be maintained and expanded. The city can now develop leisure programs that will be more interesting for the public. That is a commitment from both the City of Dorval and the ADM as the two parties will work closely together to maintain and improve the facilities, in accordance with their respective policies and procedures. n
