A person was taken to the hospital on September 17th in Fort St. John. (Canva.)
FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — RCMP officers say one individual was taken to the hospital after being tased during what they described as an “extreme mental health crisis.”
According to the Fort St. John RCMP detachment, officers received a mental health crisis call in the evening of Wednesday, September 17th in the area of 86th Street and 85th Avenue.
Police arrived at the scene alongside a crisis negotiator, paramedics and firefighters.
Following what officers described as a “lengthy standoff” with an individual, an RCMP member used a “conducted energy weapon” — a taser — on them out of concern they might hurt themselves.
That person was then apprehended under the Mental Health Act and taken to a hospital for further care. A video of the incident circulated in local Facebook groups in the aftermath.
