Although Degrassi: Whatever It Takes is the class reunion that many fans have been waiting for, don’t expect Paige Michalchuk to make an appearance.
Lauren Collins, who played the mean girl with a heart of gold on Degrassi: The Next Generation, recently explained why she didn’t participate in the documentary, which recently had its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival.
“It just didn’t feel like the right move for me at the time,” Collins told E! News. “I’m so proud of my time on the show. I feel so grateful for it. I’ve been talking about it for 25 years and I’m happy to do it on my own terms.”
Noting that she hasn’t seen the movie, Collins said, “I’ve heard it’s great and I’m excited to see it.”
Meanwhile, she gave her reaction to the trailer, in which co-star Drake admitted Collins was one of his first kisses when Paige and Jimmy locked lips in the first season.
“I was like, ‘I don’t know if I knew that,’” said Collins. “I guess it’s safe to assume because we were all so young when that happened. What’s funny is, he was not one of mine.”
Although Collins doesn’t appear in Degrassi: Whatever It Takes, she reunited with her co-stars back in 2018 for Drake’s ‘I’m Upset‘ music video, which returned them to the halls of the fictional Canadian school.
“Coming back together to do the video was a really nice way to commemorate that,” Collins recalled. “That really felt like a little closure that we all needed.”
