After making his much-anticipated debut as the vengeful Dante in 2023’s Fast X, Jason Momoa was destined to return in the sequel, Fast X: Part 2. Unfortunately, owing to internal studio conflicts, the follow-up seems stuck in developmental limbo. Jason Momoa has now confirmed the fans’ fear.
During an interview with The Playlist, Momoa expressed his excitement about returning to the franchise alongside Vin Diesel, but clarified the film’s uncertain status.
“I would love to come back and play, man,” Momoa said. “People all over the world love that character—it’s crazy. But I got no script, so not that soon.”
Earlier this year at Fuel Fest (a car enthusiast event), Vin Diesel shared an update on the project’s tentative release window, confirming April 2027 to the crowd. Honestly, it’s not the first time such a timeline has been tossed around. Year after year, fans have watched the release timeline get pushed from 2025 to 2026 (25th anniversary of the franchise), and now to this new window.
Clinging to this hope, we want to see this timeline finally materialize. The script’s incompletion isn’t necessarily a worrying sign, since there is still plenty of time ahead.
Though I hope with all the time they have, the film better be worth the wait. If you ask me, the last film was certainly over-the-top, and aside from its expected and repetitive elements, Momoa was the only worthwhile addition.
