Toronto Maple Leafs forward Max Domi had a heartfelt tribute to his grandfather on social media after sadly passing away.
In a sad bit of news out of the hockey world, at least in terms of Leafs Nation is the news that Max Domi’s grandfather Harold had sadly passed away.
Domi put out a heartfelt tribute on Instagram regarding his grandfather, and mentioned various cherished memories and how he taught him many life lessons, including how to patch the wall after putting some pucks through it.
Grampy. I’m going to miss you more than anything. The pain knowing I won’t be able to call you and hear you say I love you too Max before hearing nana say Harold let me talk to him.
Hear the doorbell as a kid and sprinting to the door because I knew my two favourite people were finally here, drag you downstairs to play mini hockey goalie for a few minutes before you could say hi to anyone else.
Teach me how to dry wall the entire garage after ruining it with pucks, spend a Christmas morning with you and nana, enjoy a classic Coker chip dip with you.
He also spoke about how his grandfather was the foundation of his family and how he continues to live his life by his example:
There will always be a hole in my heart. I feel so lucky to have shared the last 30 years with you. You were always there. You are truly the greatest man I’ve ever known.
You are the rock of our entire family and the reason we’re so close. You and nana are second parents to the girls and I, wow were we lucky. Thank you for being the best role model anyone can ask for.
We will continue to live our life as you led every single day. You are the most selfless and loving person I’ve ever known.
He ended it with a promise to his departed grandfather, and knowing Domi he’s going to stick with it until the bitter end:
Don’t worry we will all take care of nana just as you did for 69 years. Words will never ever do justice for the man you have been your entire life or what you have done for every single person you have come across.
It’s Been an Emotional Week for Max Domi On and Off the Ice
It’s an unfortunate bit of news to add to an already rough preseason as Domi is also dealing with an injury, and this has to sway his focus a bit (though for good reason).
All we can hope for is that Max’s spirits aren’t down too much and knowing that he has the full support of the team and coaches while he not only recovers from a physical ailment but any emotional situations as well.
We here at Hockey Patrol would like to offer our sincere condolences to the family of Max Domi during this difficult time.
