The Conservative Party of BC has ejected Surrey-Cloverdale MLA Elenore Sturko from its caucus, a source tells 1130 NewsRadio.
The source says that Sturko was ousted over claims she was trying to organize against BC Conservative leader John Rustad, who was awaiting the results of a leadership review.
Rustad was ultimately successful, with the party saying he received 70.66 per cent of the vote this morning.
But sources claim that even after the results of the leadership review were clear, Sturko was making calls to fellow party members to try to rouse up support for a campaign to oust Rustad.
Last week, Sturko told 1130 NewsRadio she was “deeply concerned” about allegations of voting irregularities in the Conservatives’ leadership review.
A leaked database showed hundreds of dubious membership sign-ups over the span of a couple of days — all with similar email formats and bogus phone numbers of ‘111 111 1111’ or ‘222 222 2222’.
Sturko was first elected to the provincial legislature in a by-election in 2022 as a member of the BC Liberals (now BC United). She then won her current seat in the 2024 provincial election.
Months before last year’s provincial election, she defected from BC United and joined the BC Conservatives, with polling numbers showing United sliding towards an impressive defeat.
She has served as the BC Conservatives’ Critic for Public Safety and Solicitor General.
1130 NewsRadio has reached out to Sturko for comment.
More to come.
