The Yellowknife Exiles rugby club and Monkey Tree pub are inviting people to join them on Saturday morning to watch the women’s rugby World Cup final.
As the game takes place in London on Saturday afternoon, Yellowknifers will need to be up bright and early to catch the game that morning. The pub doors will open at 8:30am with kick-off at 9am.
Canada is playing in the final against England after beating six-time champions New Zealand 34–19 in the semi-finals last week.
England is currently ranked number one in the world, but Canada’s team has been doing well in recent years.
The Canadians took home a World Cup silver medal in 2014 – losing to England in that year’s final – and have made it into the semi-finals multiple times.
“I’ve had the privilege of training alongside some of these incredible players, and I can tell you first-hand just how strong and determined they are on the field,” Holly Jones, a Yellowknife Exiles board member, was quoted as saying.
“Seeing them make it to the World Cup final is inspiring – not just for rugby players, but for athletes across Canada.”
Saturday’s final is expected to take place in front of a sold-out crowd of 82,000, which would set a new world record for a women’s rugby match.
Canada has never won the women’s rugby World Cup.
If you can’t make it to the Monkey Tree, the final will be shown live on TSN.
