The City of Chestermere, Alta. is acquiring the Lakeside Greens Golf Course with the intent of protecting and expanding public recreation.
The golf course’s ownership had earlier announced plans to cease operations, persuading the city to seek its acquisition.
“This is about more than golf,” Mayor Shannon Dean said in a city-issued release. “It is about safeguarding public land, protecting the character of our neighbourhoods, and making smart investments in Chestermere’s future. Our residents have asked for better recreation, and today we are delivering.”
The golf course spans across 127 acres.
