A 14-year-old boy is facing a dozen charges after a shot was fired at a gas station in Whitby earlier this month.

Durham Regional Police said they got a call for an armed person at a gas station near Victoria Street West and Montecorte Street on the evening of Sept. 12.

A male suspect got out of a sedan and allegedly fired a shot. Police said no one was struck fortunately and that the sedan was determined to have been stolen several hours before the shooting.

Three days later, on Sept. 15, officers found the sedan unoccupied in Pickering. Their investigation uncovered that the suspect was believed to be linked to three more stolen vehicles.

In a news release on Friday, police announced the suspect, a teenager from Pickering, was taken into custody the previous day.

The boy has been charged with discharging a firearm with intent to endanger life, possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm, occupying a motor vehicle with a firearm, possession of a loaded firearm, possession of an electronic device for motor vehicle theft, possession of a break-in instrument, three counts of driving a motor vehicle without a licence and three counts of possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000.

The charges have not been tested in court.

He cannot be identified under the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
