Samsung seems ready to pull another trick out of its sleeve with the next big One UI update. Many features have already been discovered, and new ones continue to surface. It’s shaping up to be a much bigger update than we initially thought. One report suggests that Samsung will introduce a native double back-tap gesture with One UI 8.5.
Galaxy phones will soon have native double back-tap gestures with One UI 8.5
Friends over at Android Authority found clues in the One UI 8.5, which suggest Samsung is working on a native double back-tap gesture. As the name implies, you may soon be able to simply tap the back of your phone twice to launch certain tools or shortcuts. This is not an uncommon feature as most other phones in the market already have this, and now Samsung will be adding a native support.
Double back tap
Gently tap the back of the phone twice while the screen is on.
According to early findings, a double back-tap could turn on the flashlight, pull down notifications, take a screenshot, open quick settings, launch an app, show a privacy display, or even trigger an AI-powered selection tool. In short, it’s a neat way to get things done without fiddling around with menus.
As I said that most other phones already have this feature built-in, but Samsung’s approach is different. Currently, Samsung users have to rely on a Good Lock called RegiStar to get similar results. That add-on works well. But not everyone wants to bother with downloading extra apps just to enable a feature that felt like it should be built-in. Thankfully, that’s changing.
Of course, there’s a small catch. Not every Galaxy phone will see this feature. It’s tied to the One UI 8.5 update, so devices stuck on older versions will likely miss out. Still, for phones that do get it, this gesture could quickly become second nature. Double-tapping the back of your phone is faster than digging through settings or swiping around the screen.
