Jalen Philpot found the end zone in the ‘Philpot Bowl’ but it wasn’t enough to secure the win against his brother Tyson and the Montreal Alouettes.

The Stampeders dropped their second and final regular season meeting with the Als 38-20 in Montreal on Friday night. The defeat brings Calgary’s record to 8-6, but the team still remains in second place in the West Division.

Quarterback Vernon Adams Jr. recorded a touchdown through the air and on the ground in the loss and running back Dedrick Mills surpassed the 1,000 yard mark for the first time in his CFL career.

The Alouettes got on the board first on Friday night at Percival Molson Memorial Stadium.

Kicker Jose Maltos Diaz sailed a 38-yard field goal attempt wide left into the waiting arms of returner Erik Brooks who conceded the single point in the end zone for a Montreal rouge.

After a two-and-out from the Stamps, Maltos Diaz made good on his next attempt from 44 yards out, increasing the Alouettes score to 4-0.

Adams and the Stampeders offence responded by driving the length of the field and capped it off with a 14-yard touchdown pass to Jalen Philpot, putting the Stamps up 7-4 by the end of the first quarter.

A few minutes into the second quarter, Davis Alexander and the Alouettes answered back with a major of their own. In his first game back since re-injuring his hamstring earlier this season, Alexander fired a deep ball to Charleston Rambo good for a 42-yard touchdown to retake the lead 11-7.

After another two-and-out from the Stamps, Montreal found the end zone once more as short-yardage quarterback Shea Patterson finished the Als drive to increase their lead 18-7.

Following another series of punts between the two clubs, Calgary worked their way into the red zone before the end of the second half.

Adams was forced to call his own number after being forced out of the pocket by Montreal defenders. The mobile quarterback scrambled to his right, saw a lane and put his foot on the gas, scurrying 21-yards to the end zone for the major and cutting the lead 18-14.

With 35 seconds left in the half the Alouettes were able to get into field goal range, but Maltos Diaz missed his second attempt of the night and Brooks was able to run the ball out to keep the score the same at halftime.

The third quarter was all Montreal. Patterson dove across the goal line two more times to put the Als up 32-14.

Paredes and Maltos Diaz exchanged field goals on two occasions before the night was over, making the final score 38-20.
