Insider David Pagnotta revealed some very interesting information about Mason McTavish, a name often linked to the Montreal Canadiens.

“According to league sources, McTavish is willing to sign a long-term deal, in the seven-to-eight-year range worth in the neighbourhood of $7 million to $8 million per season.” – David Pagnotta

However, the Ducks refuse to give him that much (which is really strange) and are instead offering him $5.5 million per season.

Would the Montreal Canadiens be willing to pay that price to acquire Mason McTavish?

Since the Ducks don’t want to go higher than $5.5 million, could an offer sheet of eight or nine million per year actually work?

It would cost the Canadiens:

– 1 first-round pick
– 1 second-round pick
– 1 third-round pick

as compensation if the Ducks didn’t match such an offer sheet (from $7.02 to $9.36 million per year).

I’d be willing to give McTavish 9 million per year to bring him to Montreal, knowing that the salary cap will almost double in the coming years.

imageI understand it’s risky to give up an unprotected 2026 first-round pick because of a certain Gavin McKenna, but I don’t see how the Habs could finish among the NHL’s three worst teams this season-especially with McTavish, especially with Noah Dobson, and also with Ivan Demidov for a full season.

And you-what’s your opinion on all this?

It’s really strange that McTavish still isn’t signed, despite his very reasonable demands.
