The Buffalo Sabres have struggled for the past 14 years, extending the NHL’s longest playoff drought, but now, they’ve remained committed to Buffalo.

For 14 seasons, the Buffalo Sabres have fallen short of the Stanley Cup Playoffs, representing the NHL’s longest drought, with the future of the organization coming into question for many fans and analysts around the National Hockey League.

With Terry Pegula at the helm, at this point in time, absolutely nothing has changed, and even with suggestions that the organization should move on from Buffalo, it appears as though things will go on the same as always.

Sabres commit to Buffalo and the Keybank Center

According to a new report, the team have extended their lease at the KeyBank Center for the next five years until the end of 2031, meaning they will remain where they are for quite some time to come.

It’s unfortunate that many have called for the Sabres to relocate, as they have plenty of history and some very dedicate fans in Buffalo, but unfortunately, under the Pegula’s, things have just gone downhill, and there’s very few avenues for them to improve moving forward.

This season however, there’s plenty of optimism for the Sabres, with their young core led by Tage Thompson and Rasmus Dahlin helping to give fans hope that they can make a genuine push in the Atlantic Division.

Ultimately though, they have remained loyal to the city of Buffalo throughout all of the struggles, and with the Sabres locked in for another five years, they will continue their run in Buffalo as they look to finally turn around a decade and a half of major struggles.
