The Team Penske driver was easily the fastest car in qualifying and race day as he led the final 50 laps to take his third victory of the year. His prize was a secured spot in the Round of 8 – and a local delicacy: a live lobster.

“I’ve wanted a lobster ever since I was a little kid coming to watch these races. I’ve always wanted one of those things, so I’m looking forward to it,” Blaney said after his victory.

Blaney won the championship in 2023 and finished runner-up last year to teammate Joey Logano. His win last week ensures he’ll fight on to the next round of the playoffs and he holds a two-point lead over William Byron in the playoff standings.

Briscoe clocked in at 29.987 seconds, the only driver under 30 seconds during the qualifying session for the fifth race of the NASCAR Cup Series Playoffs. He will be looking to secure his spot in the Round of 8 with a win on Sunday.

The Hendrick Motorsports duo of Kyle Larson and Chase Elliott qualified third and fourth, with Christopher Bell rounding out the top five.

Ryan Blaney, last week’s winner at New Hampshire, was unable to set a time in qualifying. A practice crash following a cut tire prevented him from making a qualifying attempt. Similarly, Joey Logano cut a tire during practice, but avoided an incident and more serious damage to his No. 22.

Nevertheless, Logano was 35th out of the 36 cars that did take time in qualifying from the 37-car field.
