OnePlus has confirmed that several of its smartphones now support VoLTE (Voice over LTE) in Canada, a necessary step as 3G networks across the country are set to shut down by the end of 2025, namely starting with Rogers and Fido by the end of this month.

Some OnePlus users in Canada had expressed confusion online, wondering if their devices would stop working once 3G disappears. But according to the company, multiple phones have received software updates that now make them compatible with VoLTE, which allows calls and texts to work over the newer 4G and 5G networks.

Here are the OnePlus models that now support VoLTE with the latest software installed, according to a OnePlus spokesperson to iPhone in Canada:

OnePlus says this update is to address “misleading information” online about their devices not supporting VoLTE. So this is their official statement on the matter.

After updating, users don’t need to change any settings—VoLTE will turn on automatically. If you want to double-check, go to Settings → About device → Status → SIM card status and look for “IMS registration state: Registered.” You should also see the VoLTE icon near your signal bars.

This update is especially important for Rogers customers, since Rogers will begin its 3G shutdown on July 31, 2025. Without VoLTE, voice calls and texts would stop working (and you might get dinged $75 for sticking to 3G networks). Some 4G phones were unexpectedly cut off by accident by Rogers, which blamed the issue on its 3G shutdown.

Telus will start the first phase of its 3G shutdown at the end of this year.
