By Eric Morway — Over the weekend, Carson Senators Cycling competed in the third race of the northern Nevada mountain bike season. It was another great showing by the Senators with a second-place team finish.

With Mammoth Mountain hosting the “High Sierra Showdown,” the high school boys got things started with two podium finishers — Devon Granata finished 4th in the varsity category and Jax Huntington finished 2nd in the level 5 category.

The high school girls raced next with Riley Kuhlman finishing 5th in a very strong varsity girls field. First-year racer Lily Beardsley took the top podium spot in the level 4 girls category, finishing multiple laps of the 4.5 mile circuit with a breakaway win. In the middle school girls race, the Senators had two more podium finishers. Syrae Lenz finished 4th in the level 2 girls category and Clara Morway finished 5th among the level 1 girls.

Other top ten finishers include Nikki Lawlor (level 4 girls), Evie Huntington (level 3 girls), Mira Orvald (level 2 girls), Sylis and Seth Chalmers (varsity boys), and Ben Winbigler (level 1 boys).

Next on the Senators race schedule is the “Capital City Crusher” on Oct. 12. The high school boys will start the racing at about 9am. Estimated start times for the high school girls, middle school girls, and middle school boys are 10:45am, 12:15pm, and 1:15pm, respectively.

To cheer on the Senators, head over to the trails next to WNC. Parking is available in WNC’s lower parking lot and is accessible from College Parkway. Lunch can be purchased from one of the food trucks that will be available on site. We look forward to welcoming the community. Don’t forget to bring your cowbell!
