Formula 1 resumes action this weekend with the Singapore Grand Prix at Marina Bay Street Circuit from October 3-5.
The drivers’ title fight has become more and more intense with crucial points being thrown away by the frontrunners, blowing the championship wide open with seven races to go.
Championship leader Oscar Piastri had a nightmare of a race last time out in Baku after crashing out on the opening lap – a mishap that handed his McLaren teammate and title rival Lando Norris a golden opportunity on a plate to close in on him in the standings.
The Briton didn’t take it however and couldn’t make a meaningful dent in Piastri’s lead, starting and finishing the race in seventh place and only managing to reduce the gap between them to 25 points.
It was Max Verstappen who drove his Red Bull to a dominant victory – his second in a row – crossing the finish line 14.609 seconds ahead of George Russell of Mercedes. Carlos Sainz pulled off a stunning third-place finish for Williams – his first podium since Abu Dhabi in 2024 and the team’s first since 2021.
Verstappen’s win brought his points tally to 255, shrinking the deficit to Piastri from 104 points to just 69 in the span of two race weekends and reigniting his hopes of clinching a fifth consecutive drivers’ title.

Now heading to round 18, Piastri needs to shake off the Baku disaster and avoid any more blunders that could hurt his championship chances.
Norris will also be looking to make up for the missed opportunity last time and replicate his success from last year’s Singapore Grand Prix when he finished 20 seconds ahead of Verstappen.
Having won on every track on the 2025 calendar in his career except in Singapore, Verstappen will push even harder this weekend to finally secure a victory there at the ninth time of asking and further chip away at the points gap.
On the constructors’ front, McLaren hopes to secure their second consecutive title this weekend after missing out on the chance in Baku. The Woking squad needs only 13 points to seal the title, which means a single podium finish from either Piastri or Norris will be enough.
Mercedes needs to outscore McLaren by at least 31 points to keep their mathematical hopes alive, while Ferrari must outscore them by 35 points to stay in contention.

Round 18 of the season in Marina Bay, Singapore kicks off with Free Practice 1 (FP1) on Friday, October 3, at 5:30 p.m. local time, followed by Free Practice 2 (FP2) later in the day at 9 p.m.
On Saturday, October 4, drivers will climb into their cars for the final practice run (FP3) at 5:30 p.m. before they fight for grid positions in qualifying at 9 p.m.
The 62-lap race will get underway at 8 p.m. on Sunday, October 5.
