Amy Poehler welcomed her good friend and fellow Saturday Night Live alum Kristen Wiig to her Good Hang podcast, and somehow the conversation turned to a scenario in which Wiig joins Metallica and makes them a “quieter” band.
At one point during the episode, Poehler brought up Wiig’s singing talent, and asked her if she was ever interested in pursuing music professionally. “I would love to do an album, a record,” responded Wiig, “but I don’t even know how to get started.” She then turned straight into the camera, and added, “Can you weigh in on the comments on this? … How do you get into the music business?”
Poehler suggested, “You can join someone’s band… Whose band should you join? Metallica?,” as both laughed, with Wiig remarking, “Metallica… just take them in a new direction,” and Poehler continuing, “Just quieter… just a little bit quieter.”

Wiig then imagined the conversation she would have with Metallica, saying, “Just calling them up, and being like, ‘Guys, I know you have your thing … but you’ve been doing it a long time…,’” with Poehler finishing up the thought by adding, “‘your fans would love to sit down [at shows].’”
The two continued talking about music by recalling how they used to go to rock shows a lot when they were younger, but these days rather go to sleep early.
That all said, Wiig does have a big connection to the rock world. While she’s now married to actor Avi Rothman, she dated drummer Fabrizio Moretti of The Strokes for a few years back in the early 2010s.
