Sandpoint 1, Coeur d’Alene 1

COEUR d’ALENE — After trailing 1-0 at halftime, junior Brennan Shaw scored one of his trademark headers on a Logan McGrann corner kick during the 63rd minute to force a draw in Tuesday night’s 6A/5A Inland Empire League showdown at Viking Field.

Issac Lowder found nylon on a penalty kick during the 30th minute for Coeur d’Alene, which is 7-3-1.

It was the third meeting this season between the two squads, with Sandpoint winning the previous matchup by a score of 3-1 and the Vikings taking the first game of the season series by a score of 2-1.

Sandpoint High head coach Dan Anderson said it was one of the highest-level high school matches he’s seen in North Idaho in quite a long time.

“It was an incredibly exciting match to be a part of,” coach Dan Anderson said. “Both teams really showed up to play today, and I’m just incredibly proud of our boys’ effort and grit to get themselves back into the game. They showed a collective unity that will serve us well going into the postseason —  a stellar performance from everyone involved.”

Junior goalkeeper Landon Brinkmeier was busy, recording six saves for Sandpoint (9-3-2), which travels to Lakeland on Thursday for their 5A Inland Empire League regular-season finale.
