Doors have officially opened on the new Canadian Tire in Kelowna.
The new location at 2479 Highway 97 North (the corner of Highway 97 and Highway 33) opened at 7 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 2, moving from 1655 Leckie Road.
On Thursday morning, about 20 people waited outside for the new department store to open, with one person questioning “there’s no ribbon or anything?”
The store is 108,000 square feet in size, with an additional 14,000 square feet in the service centre, more than double the size of the old location, which was 51,000 square feet.
Canadian Tire built a brand new building on the property to the tune of $25 million. Back in early 2023, Canadian Tire told Black Press Media the new store would create 150 to 175 new jobs.
It’s unclear at this time what is going to happen to the Leckie Road building.
