PELLA— The Central College women’s tennis team made a triumphant return home, securing a 5-2 win over Loras College Friday.
After losing three consecutive American Rivers Conference matches away from the Poortinga Family Tennis Courts, Central (5-3, 4-3 conference) dispatched Loras (4-5, 2-5 conference).
Emily Blom (sophomore, Pella) and Sidney Peterson (freshman, Johnston) both went 2-0 in the match. They paired together for a 6-1 win at No. 3 doubles. Blom won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 5 singles while Peterson won 7-5, 6-2 at No. 6 singles.
Madi Whalen (senior, Kansas City, Mo. Park Hill HS) and Jenna Mitsuko Mahoney (senior, Misawa, Japan, Robert D. Edgren HS) were 6-2 winners at No. 2 doubles to take the doubles point.
Emma Murphy (junior, Liberty, Mo.) won 6-2, 6-1 at No 4 singles and Lauren Gano (junior, Johnston) won 6-2, 6-0 at No. 3 singles.
Central hosts the University of Dubuque Saturday morning at 10 a.m. on the Poortinga Family Tennis Courts.
