The New York Yankees will send right-hander Luis Gil to the mound against the Toronto Blue Jays Saturday to open the American League Division Series, manager Aaron Boone told reporters Friday.

It was previously announced that Toronto will start righty Kevin Gausman in Game 1.

Gil, 27, was sidelined by a lat injury for more than half of 2025 but was effective upon his return, turning in a 3.32 ERA in 11 starts down the stretch of the season. He did not pitch in the Yankees’ three-game Wild Card Series victory over the Boston Red Sox earlier this week.

Gil, the reigning American League Rookie of the Year Award winner, faced the Blue Jays once during the regular season, holding them to one run over six innings in an eventual 3-1 win on Sept. 6.

The Yankees will send ace Max Fried to the hill in Game 2 Sunday evening, Boone said.

The first two games of the best-of-five series will be played at Rogers Centre in Toronto before shifting to New York for Game 3 on Tuesday, Oct. 7. If necessary, Game 4 would go next Wednesday in the Bronx before heading back to Toronto for a potential Game 5 next Friday.
