Initiative Helps People with Autism Fly with Confidence

A unique initiative is taking place at St. John’s International Airport tomorrow to help people with autism get used to the steps associated with taking a flight.

Called Try-a-Flight Family Edition, it is a joint initiative between the Autism Society, St. John’s International, The Air Canada Foundation, and PAL Airlines.

Organizers say air travel can be challenging for people with autism as they have to navigate busy airports, and adjust to new routines and sensory experiences.

The purpose of Try-a-Flight is to reduce anxiety by giving people a chance to practice each step of the journey, from check-in and security screening to experiencing a short flight.

The initiative is taking place tomorrow morning, with a flight time set for 10:20.
