CEDAR RAPIDS — The Central College women’s soccer team had an offensive awakening Saturday with a 7-0 victory at Coe College.

Central (6-2-1, 1-1-0 American Rivers Conference) had a halftime lead of just 1-0 against Coe (2-6-3, 0-2-0 conference) courtesy of a goal by Kelly Duffy in the 14th minute.

The Dutch broke the game open in the second half with six goals. Piper Eighmy (junior, Birmingham, Ala., Briarwood Christian HS), Rylee Rustad (junior, Gilbert, Ariz., Casteel HS) and Addie Shields (freshman, Liberty, Mo.) all recorded a goal and an assist on the night.

Josie Newton (junior, Altoona, Southeast Polk HS) had her second goal of the season while Grace Wolford (senior, West Des Moines, Valley HS) and Rachel Mendlik (sophomore, Spring Grove, Ill., Richmond-Burton HS) had their firsts of the season. Olivia DeVos (sophomore, Altoona, Southeast Polk HS) and Emma Kramer (freshman, Rock Island, Ill., Alleman Catholic HS) added assists.

Central had possession of the ball for 67% of the matches.

“We had much of the territorial battle,” coach Mike Kobyliski said. “Coe did some good things a well. It was nice to play our brand the whole match, but especially in the second half.”

Zoey Sizemore (junior, Omaha, Neb., Mercy HS) made three saves in goal playing the first 87 minutes of the match.

Central plays at Simpson College Wednesday in a 5 p.m. match.

“Sitting at a 6-2-1 record is a good feeling,” Kobylinski said. “We want to keep riding that wave.”
