The 2025 WNBA Finals will continue Sunday with Game 2 between the Las Vegas Aces and Phoenix Mercury. The Aces, who came back to win Game 1, 89-86, will look to take a commanding 2-0 lead in the first best-of-seven series in WNBA history.Â
The Mercury lost Game 1 in the first round and semifinals, but were able to come back against both the New York Liberty and Minnesota Lynx. Kahleah Copper said late on Friday night that the team won’t be shaken by falling behind again.Â
“This is a long series,” Copper said. “I think the takeaway from those other first ones, the mindset was ‘back to the drawing board.’ We had the utmost confidence in our locker room and in our coaches to make the adjustments. Now it’s the same thing.”
The Mercury will have both Alyssa Thomas and Sami Whitcomb available after injury scares in Game 1. Thomas appeared to have something wrong with her left hand in the closing minutes, while Whitcomb briefly went to the locker room after hyperextending her right knee. Thomas is in the starting lineup and Whitcomb will come off the bench as usual.Â
The Mercury have not lost a Game 2 in the playoffs thus far, but taking down the Aces, who are 22-6 at home between the regular season and playoffs, will not be easy. Can they continue their resilient run and even this series at 1-1? Or will the Aces take full control? We’ll soon find out.Â
