Canadiens’ Latest Roster Moves Could Mark the End for 25-Year-Old Player

We once again had quite a bit of action today from the Montreal Canadiens, just a few hours before the start of the regular season.
During the golf tournament, Kent Hughes mentioned that Mandolese was brought into the organization mainly as an insurance policy, in case Kaapo Kahkonen was claimed off NHL waivers.Kahkonen and Jacob Fowler will therefore officially be the Laval Rocket goaltenders for the 2025-26 season.. But what does all this mean for Kevin Mandolese?
The Montreal Canadiens announce a personnel move involving goaltender Kevin Mandolese
For now, here’s what has been decided for the 6-foot-4 goaltender.
“Kevin Mandolese remains within the Canadiens sphere, headed to Laval. Makes me wonder if Dobes or even Fowler are in play for a potential trade for a 2C.”
– Andrew Zadarnowski
Mandolese has therefore signed another professional tryout contract within the Canadiens organization, but this time with the Laval Rocket.
“No surprises. The Lions start taking shape. Darick Louis-Jean and Joe Dunlap remain with the Rocket for now.
The Rocket don’t need to decide on Kevin Mandolese for a while. They can keep him on a PTO 25 games into the season.”
– Andrew Zadarnowski
This will be a situation to watch, but knowing that he was brought in as an insurance policy in case Kahkonen was lost on waivers (and knowing that Kahkonen is now officially in Laval), don’t be surprised if Mandolese unfortunately ends up leaving for another opportunity.
