A night previous, Atlanta faced off against the Las Vegas Aces, losing 87-72. They came out of the gate strong, taking a 27-20 lead after one quarter, but saw that lead dissipate quickly, ending in a 6-point deficit at halftime. Allisha Gray led the Dream in scoring with 24 points, including making 5-of-11 3-pointers, to go with eight rebounds and two steals. Jordin Canada added 12 points and six assists for the Dream.

Phoenix starts their second half after a promising stretch leading up to the All-Star break. After starting the season 6-4, they would go 9-3 to rise up the standings, where they’re currently third-best in the league. The Mercury are led by the two-headed attack of Alyssa Thomas, who averages 15.2 points, 7.3 rebounds, 9.5 assists and 1.4 steals, and Satou Sabally, who averages 19.1 points, 7.7 rebounds, 2.6 assists and 1.4 steals.

This is the first of three matchups between the Mercury and Dream, with two more games scheduled for the first half of August.
