Ryan Reynolds sent Mark Consuelos a text about being late “five minutes before” the latter came to set.”That’s an alarming text to get backstage,” Kelly Ripa observed.Reynolds finally arrived and read the comical text message to the audience.

Ryan Reynolds nearly missed his Wednesday appearance on Live With Kelly & Mark, with the Deadpool star sending an “alarming text” to Mark Consuelos minutes before the live talk show began.

Host Kelly Ripa ended the morning’s host chat by sharing a moderately concerning development about their guest for the day. “Ryan just sent Mark a text backstage, saying he’s running late,” the daytime TV icon told the audience.

“He’s here,” producer Michael Gelman said from off camera, though Ripa still observed, “That’s an alarming text to get backstage.”

When the show returned from a commercial break, the couple brought Reynolds out, and discussed what derailed his morning commute.

“I wasn’t sure if you were here, so I was like, better talk about that lost cat [topic] just in case we need more time,” Ripa joked of what the pair discussed on the air to stall for time.

Consuelos then recalled receiving correspondence from Reynolds “about five minutes before we came on set,” and Reynolds agreed to read aloud the message he sent to the couple

“I was coming from upstate and you guys decided to move 80 blocks south,” Reynolds quipped, with Ripa countering, “Did you just find that out today, did ya?”

After pulling out his phone, Reynolds read the full text he sent to the couple.

“Morning. Gave myself two full hours from upstate, but I’m sitting on the Hudson in what can only be described as the second act of Sharknado 10: Unwatchable, but I’m sitting here, it’s happening, and there’s nothing I can do about it,” Reynolds read. “Waze is saying I arrive at 9:15 a.m., the other map says I get here earlier if I did the worm for 50 blocks. I’m 48, I’d rather get a vasectomy the normal way.”

He continued, “The good news is I’m dressed and I don’t care about makeup the way Mark does. I’ll walk right out there like I’m starring in a damn Dove commercial celebrating my inner beauty. So what if I don’t look five hours younger through the magic of cosmetics? I hate being late, but I’m coming. Tell this to the most terrified person wearing a headset.”

Ripa said that Reynolds “made it worth the wait” in the end, while the actor joked that the ordeal “definitely shortened the time I have left with my children.”

The trio moved on to discuss Reynolds’ new documentary, John Candy: I Like Me, which chronicles the life and career of his fellow Canadian entertainer John Candy.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly following the film’s September debut at the 2025 Toronto International Film Festival, Candy’s children, Christopher and Jennifer Candy, said that it “was really sweet to see” their father take an interest in caring for child star Macaulay Culkin while the pair filmed the movie Uncle Buck during a turbulent period in Culkin’s family life.

“He showed a lot of respect. When you’re 8 years old, you don’t really get respect, whether it’s in a workplace or just from adults and grown-ups in general. You felt invited in,” Culkin said of Candy’s protective instinct in the film.
