Kevin Durant is all in for "legend" Russell Westbrook to return to Houston Rockets for a fairy tale reunionRussell Westbrook and Kevin Durant (Image via X) As the 2025-26 regular season approaches, Russell Westbrook, who played the previous season with the Denver Nuggets, is a free agent. He declined his $3.4 million player option in June and joined the free market to scout for a new home team. His old teammate from the Oklahoma City Thunder, Kevin Durant, though has a pretty solid solution to that. KD thinks Westbrook could join the Houston Rockets once again, and team up with Durant one more time.

Kevin Durant has an answer for Russell Westbrook’s free agency

Kevin Durant recently appeared on the Up and Adams show with Kay Adams and discussed a multitude of things before the regular NBA season kicks off on October 21. His new team, the Houston Rockets, is set to travel to Oklahoma to face the OKC Thunder, a team he has a love-hate relationship with. And while discussing his previous team, he also mentioned an old teammate, Russell Westbrook, who last played in the NBA for the Denver Nuggets during the 2024-25 season. “Russ is a legend. I think he deserves to be in the NBA right now. I think he deserves to walk out of the NBA on his own terms. Yeah, (a reunion) would be dope.”But he also acknowledged that what happens behind the scenes is not up to him. And while he would love to play alongside his old teammate once again, these decisions are better left for the experts. “But it’s not my decision. Leaving that up to whoever makes those decisions for now.” Fans would definitely love to see these two team up again, but for now, it feels like a long shot.

Could Russell Westbrook make a return to Houston Rockets?

Russell Westbrook left the Oklahoma City Thunder, where he last played with Kevin Durant, in the year 2019. The OKC Thunder was his first team in the NBA, having been drafted by them back in 2008. He had a pretty good start with the team where he also reunited with another ex-Thunder player, James Harden. But could the same happen once again, with KD taking the place of Harden this time around? Well, it doesn’t seem likely. While the Rockets need a point guard on their roster after Fred VanVleet suffered a torn ACL last month, Westbrook might not be the best suitable replacement. And although he does deserve to leave the game on his own terms, as KD mentioned, whether the Rockets will reach for it, especially after their deal to bring in Durant at the beginning of the offseason, doesn’t seem too likely right now.
