It was a strong start to the Mitch Marner era in Las Vegas as the Golden Knights new star winger tallied two points in his debut.
Marner assisted on two third-period goals that broke a tie and then gave the Golden Knights a two-score lead. However, the Los Angeles Kings scored twice later on in the third period and won 6-5 in the shootout.
In addition to his two assists, Marner recorded three shots on goal with one hit, one blocked shot and was a plus-two in 22:48, a team-high among forwards.
Jack Eichel, who signed an eight-year, $108 million extension earlier in the day, had one goal and three assists for four points. Pavel Dorofeyev also had three goals for Vegas in the loss.
Marner signed an eight-year extension with the Golden Knights after being acquired in a sign-and-trade from the Toronto Maple Leafs. The 28-year-old spent the first eight seasons of his NHL career with the Leafs and is coming off a career-best 102 point last season.
Marner and the Golden Knights will be back in action Thursday night in San Jose against the Sharks.
