Winnipeg Jets
Forward Jonathan Toews participated in the team’s morning skate as the Jets get ready to open their season against the Winnipeg Jets, according to team reporter Mitchell Clinton.

The 6-foot-2 centre skated on the second line with Gustav Nyquist and Nikita Chibrikov.
Toews, a Winnipeg native, joined the club in the off-season after missing two seasons due to health issues.

Pittsburgh Penguins
Forward Bryan Rust will not be available to the Penguins on Thursday when they take on the New York Islanders, head coach Dan Muse confirmed.
Rust, 33, sustained an lower-body injury during practice on Oct. 2 and was originally given a two-week timeline for his return.
He was a full participant in the team’s optional morning skate on Thursday but isn’t ready to play.
The 5-foot-11 winger recorded 31 goals and 65 points in 71 games with the Penguins last season.
Additionally, Muse confirmed that Tristan Jarry will get the start in net against the Islanders.
Dan Muse said Tristan Jarry starts the home opener tonight: “I think it’s so early, we just want to get everybody going, get different guys going.” The Penguins Head Coach added that Jarry was trending in “a really good direction” at the end of training camp.
