MONROE, La. – The Warhawks (8-2-3, 3-0-3 Sun Belt) will return home to face the App State Mountaineers (5-5-3, 1-2-3 Sun Belt) on Saturday (Oct. 11) at 7 p.m. After a string of draws and a victory at Southern Miss, the Warhawks look to continue their unbeaten streak at Brown Stadium.
SCOUTING THE ‘NEERS –
App State is currently 5-5-3 on the season with a 1-2-3 conference record. The Mountaineers have claimed wins over South Alabama, Davidson and Miami leading up to play with the Warhawks. Most recently, App State picked up two draws, at Coastal Carolina and against James Madison. Sophomore Ellie Garrison leads the team with three game-winning goals, earning Offensive Player of the Week on August 19. All-Sun Belt First Team member Izzi Wood leads the team with 10 points (4g, 2a) and 37 shots so far this season, notching the game winner against South Alabama.
SPREADING THE WEALTH –
Nine different Warhawks have scored each of the 21 goals this season and 14 have earned points. In the Aug. 14 season opener vs. Southeastern Louisiana, four different ULM players scored a goal. In the Aug. 27 match against Little Rock, four Warhawks claimed points from assists. Skylar Blaise leads the pack with 20 points so far, posting nine goals and two assists.
UNBEATEN STREAK –
The Warhawks hold the Sun Belt’s longest active undefeated streak with nine matches, dating back to the 2-1 win over Little Rock on August 27. They have outscored opponents 16-7 during the run, with seven of their 16 goals scored by a different player. The Warhawks also remain undefeated at home, as well as unbeaten in Sun Belt play.
SUN BELT HONORS –
Forward Skylar Blaise was voted Offensive Player of the Week for the second time this season on October 7. After securing her third career brace against South Alabama, Blaise then collected three more points at Southern Miss. The senior forward registered an assist, then scored a goal of her own for a seven-point week.
TRAILBLAISER –
Skylar Blaise has continued to lead the Warhawks and currently leads the Warhawks in multiple categories. The senior leads the team and the conference in points (20) and goals (9), reaching the record books in season goals, season points, career goals and career shots on goal to name a few. Blaise was recognized as Sun Belt Offensive Player of the Week on September 23 and again on October 7. She scored her third career brace on October 2 against South Alabama in the 2-2 draw and tallied three points (1g, 1a) against Southern Miss just three days later.
SERIES VS. APP STATE –
This is the 10th meeting between the Mountaineers and the Warhawks, with App State leading the series 7-1-1. The first meeting between the two teams was 2014, a 0-1 loss in Boone. There have been two double overtime matches for these two teams as well, one ending in a tie (2017) and one ending in a 2-1 win for App State (2020). The lone win for ULM came in 2021, a 2-1 win in Monroe. The Mountaineers have outscored the Warhawks 17-5 in the last nine meetings.
LAST TIME OUT –
HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The ULM soccer team captured a 3-1 victory in Hattiesburg against the Southern Miss Golden Eagles on Sunday afternoon. The win keeps ULM undefeated in conference play.
In the 19th minute, ULM began to turn on the jets, drawing a corner kick and posting two shots on goal. After Leane Commaret notched a free kick in the 25th minute, Skylar Blaise found Vienna Tokam for the first goal of the day and the 1-0 lead.
Another yellow card for the Warhawks and subsequent fouls placed the ball in Golden Eagle con-trol, Chloe Taylordriving down the field to find the equalizer in the 31st minute. A corner for ULM came just 45 seconds later, a header coming from Libby Holmes to set up a score by Giulia Franco.
In the 56th minute, Margret Edda Bjarnadottir knocked the ball to Blaise, who hit the back of the net to secure the victory. After the backline and goalkeeper Jen Handy prevented an additional score from Southern Miss, ULM captured its first win in Hattiesburg in program history.
