Young minds got hands-on with cycling skills in a practical workshop aimed at boosting confidence and independence.
Year 7 pupils from Springwood High School in King’s Lynn took part in two sessions led by Paul Youngman of Black Cat Cycles.
The workshops, organised on behalf of the West Norfolk Youth Advisory Board, focused on cycle maintenance, safety and practical repairs.
Victoria Mann, STEM lead at Springwood, said: “We were thrilled to be involved in the project – even more so that some of our students were able to receive reconditioned bikes to get them cycling following the session.”
Pupils learned to repair bikes, adjust gears and brakes, and carry out basic maintenance.
The sessions also had an unexpected ripple effect among staff.
Mrs Mann said: “One member of staff was so impressed by the work being done by Paul and his team, they went on to donate their own unused bike to go to young people who might not otherwise have access to one.”
Springwood High School is part of the West Norfolk Academies Trust.
