Lakers and Apple fans are getting a treat this basketball season. The tech company has teamed up with Spectrum to stream select Lakers games on its Vision Pro virtual reality (VR) headset. This marks the first time that a major U.S. sports league will make regular live broadcasts on Apple’s headsets.
The games will be captured by Blackmagic Ursa Cine Immersive camera rigs at court level and underneath each hoop, making viewers feel as though they are right there amid the action. The games will stream at 150Mbps using Apple’s custom Immersive format for VR content.
The full livestreams will only be available to authenticated customers of Spectrum SportsNet and Spectrum Internet inside Lakers territory. However, on-demand replays and highlights will be available for viewers globally on the NBA app. The NBA and Spectrum will confirm by the end of November which games will be streamed.
