An 18-year-old man from Toronto is facing several charges after a person in a vehicle was shot late last week near the city’s Little Jamaica neighbourhood.

Toronto police say on Oct. 10, at around 5:20 p.m., they were called to the area of Oakwood Avenue and Gloucester Grove, just south of Eglinton Avenue West, for reports of a shooting.

Investigators allege that there was an “interaction” between a male suspect and an occupant of a motor vehicle.

They allege that the male brandished a gun and fired several rounds towards the vehicle, striking one occupant, who suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

Police said the alleged shooter ran away but was arrested a short time later following a brief foot chase by responding officers.

In his possession was a loaded semi-automatic handgun and a quantity of illegal narcotics at that time, they added.

Charles Moxey, 18, of Toronto, is facing several charges, including aggravated assault, possession of a Schedule 1 substance for the purpose of trafficking, possession of proceeds of crime, and possession of a prohibited device/ammunition as well as a number of other firearms-related charges. The charges have not been tested in court.

Moxey was scheduled to appear in a Toronto bail court on Oct. 11.

This investigation is ongoing and anyone with further information is asked to contact Toronto police at 416-808-2510 or Crime Stoppers anonymously.
